? don't quite follow the "watch it on older
horses". My 32 year old has been on sr feed for the last 5+ years &
she looks like a young 20. Which is saying alot for a TB type body.
She gets 3# sr & 3# alf pellet. some
grass & a flake of hay to pick at that last a couple days.
I have heard others say this and
it makes me wonder a bit.
My daughter's pony is 20 something. He gets
about 3-4 pounds of senior once a day, every day. He's on free choice hay
and does NOT have a weight problem. Should I be feeding him something
else? He does well on the feed. He has held his weight well. I hesitate to
change him. I've also started giving it to my Shagya mare who needs to put
on a few pounds. She's still getting her regular horse and mule feed, but
I'm "throwing in" another ration of the senior to see if it helps her pick
up weight like it did him. I know that it's supposed to be fed as a complete
feed, but I don't think it's doing any harm by feeding it as a regular grain
ration. If not this feed, what else?
