" I also had an
oilskin duster, but just never wore it. Biggest problem is that when it QUITS
raining, its bulky, heavy, and hard to carry if you want to take it off.

You guys need
to check out Heidi Chretien's Australian Coats , they are made from a breathable
fabric called Extreme and are lined with a coolmax mesh , they are also
waterproof . They look exactly like the old oilskin dusters but wad up and go
right into your saddle pouch . She rides endurance and does all the sewing
herself , Her company Sharaf's Closet is on Endurance Net and she will be a
vendor at convention again this year . They also come in a bunch of different
colors . I rode the 50 with her at Fort Howes last year where it rained most of
the day and she stayed nice and dry in her coat while my supposedly
"waterproof" coat and pants left me damp , she also makes helmet covers out of
the same material I believe and sold a whole lot of them at the same ride , I
bought one so at least my head stayed dry :-) But it is unbelievable how small a
space the coat can fit into when it is a full length duster
