[RC] endurance/non-traditional breeds - Ed Kilpatrick

well, you might bring a lot out of the woodwork with this.   there are individual horses of many, many different breeds that can do very well in endurance.  it is just up to you to decide what type of horse you want to ride, what type of riding you want to do, and how competitive you want to be.  i have done both ctr and endurance rides, and have ridden paso finos, mustangs, andalusian/arab cross, and a morgan.  if you are looking for a smoooth ride, then maybe a gaited horse is right for you.  the icelandic you mentioned would fill the bill.  the paso fino is an incredibly smooth ride, and if you get the right one, you could be very competitive against arabians.   it is strictly a matter of personal taste/likes and choosing a good horse within the breed you select.    ed
