[RC] Do Easy Boots change a horse's gait? - Karen Casemier

OK, just so we don't start any of the foot wars again, I want to make it clear that I'm not a barefoot nazi or anything ;>) This will be my first season competing, and I'd like to try to keep my mare barefoot and use Easy Boots for the rides or when training on hard/rocky ground (there are several reasons for this - one being I really need to keep shoes at least off the hind feet because our gelding has a habit of driving her nuts so she ends up nailing him, and she's left a couple of nasty marks when she had hind shoes on.)

I've only used the Easy boots when she's thrown a shoe and I wanted to continue to ride until the farrier could come. My husband commented that the boot changed her gait - now, that in itself doesn't surprise me, because she was going around with one shod foot and one with the Easy boot. I'd walk funny if I was wearing two different shoes on my feet, too!

But I was wondering if experienced riders have seen a difference in the way their horses move when shod vs. when using Easy Boots (I would be using the boots barefoot, not over shoes). It's not something I've ever seen discussed when people talk about Easy Boots.

Thanks!

Karen and Mazzie
