[RC] Starting a young horse - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

My wife bought a two-year-old Arab gelding last summer, and I decided to try
"breaking" and training my first horse. I started him bareback and we've been
averaging 5-10 minutes a day, 3-5 times a week since September. He's doing
great, and I'm having a blast!

How much riding is appropriate for such a young horse? I don't weigh much, and
I'm trying to keep his rides short and free of physical and emotional stress.
How old should he be before I grab a saddle and increase his workload to, say,
two miles of walking and trotting on the trail? How old should he be before
he's ready for five miles of mostly trotting? I appreciate any advice you
have.  Thanks.  Bob Pickering
