[RC] re:scratches -cheap panalog substitute - Teresa Van Hovewow, the weather must have improved for most folks with all the helpful posts today<g> I haven't had to deal a lot with scratches, knock wood; but heres a tip for anytime you would use panalog -rope burn, inflammation with scratches, wounds that you want to prevent excessive flesh growing before the slowpoke skin growth gets there.... Our vet gave us this one - mix equal parts of the triple antibiotic ointment and a cortizone creme or ointment. My older mare is somewhat prone to get 'scratches' on her front legs-- cannon bone area. Rogers recipe (Roger Rittenhoues) for calendula (marigold) tincture (mine is mixed with water and baby oil) seems to prevent scratches on her when I apply it when I notice her developing excessive dermitis(sp?) on her legs. Marigold/calendula is sposed to be generally useful for minor skin ailments from what I've read. On a completely different topic -- I love Rogers 'linimint' recipe for MY feet. It seems to help with circulation when applied before long rides and it keeps the skin healthy when used after you get your riding shoes soaking wet and have to wear them for hours <g> Cheers, Teresa =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
