[RC] Scratches - Julie FullerJust an idea......I had a boarder who had a horse with scratches.... bad. All four legs. This horse had been stalled virtually all his life (10 years or so at this point) She had tried everything on him... nothing worked well, and at times he was so sore he was pulled for lamness at the end of rides. Very frustrating. Interestingly enough, when this horse was pastured the scratches went away. He had never been pastured 24/7 until boarded at my place. Perhaps it was a sensitivity to the chips used as bedding? I don't know... but it was nice to see him comfortable. Sometimes I wonder how many problems with horses could be corrected or avoided by taking a simpler approach. I always try to keep my horses as close to the way "god intended" as possible. I'm not sure if it's this view or just plain dumb luck, but I've been very lucky with my critters over the years. And I've especially been amazed at how well my horses have done the past 2 1/2 years. I have no barn, virtually no shelter (other than waterproof sheets) and all the horses have thrived. Sometimes I feel I'm missing something.... like shoveling manure!? *grin* Julie (got my shoveling fix yesterday.... cleaning the chicken house!) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
