Terry, this cannot happen. So many years of competition
in that park on horseback, ultra running and ride and tie.
Unbelieveable. I went to the website and they have an entry for a mountain
bike event. They promote that effort and turn away from the equine
community who traveled and supported the trails way before those fat tired
cyclist hit the dirt.
From the note below, I couldn't determine who we
should write to if we cannot attend the town hall meeting in January.
On another note, I'm afraid to ask, but are we OK for Warner next
week? I have been told the 79 is closed is certain spots due to
flooding. Been doing a "sun dance" all week and apparently I don't have
the "beat" since it hasn't made much difference :)
Happy New
Year.......keeping sunny warm thoughts

News on the
Park. They want to close Los Caballos. This is nonsense. One
reason for this is that the rangers want to do less for the same rate of
pay. Don't forget, we horsemen were recently very instrumental
in acquiring funds for the Lucky-5 Ranch (which has been bought and added to the
State Park), and they are not letting us in that one either. My group the
M.A.U. (Mounted Assistant Unit for the State Park) and C.R.S.P.I.A. (Cuyamaca
Rancho State Park Interpretive Association) is also involved, working to keep
the Park open for everyone. And we are also spreading the
word.
Deer trails and horse trails are often our
first trails, many are historic, many are today's roads and highways.

Horse Folks! On
Tuesday, January 11 at 6:00 pm there will be a very important meeting at the
Descanso Town Hall. Check out below. If you
have ever camped or ridden trails in Cuyamaca, I urge you to attend this
meeting. If this new plan is allowed to go forward it could set a
precedent with the State Park System that could close campground and trails
throughout the state. There is not anywhere in this state the Native
American peoples did not occupy in one way or another. The impact has
already occurred in the 50 years that the camp has been on this site! The
campground needs to be re-opened. I understand that the fire did not
do very much damage in the campground and if restored on the same site the
expense would not be terrible. The new proposal would be horrendous and probably
not possible, due to making other impacts in the meadow areas. Please see
the attached letter sent to Gov. S. Nola Michel. Member
BCHC/ Caballeros del Sol and Saddle Sore-ority. Please share this
with your riding buddies that do not have e-mail and e-mail those that do!
Come out and make a difference in YOUR State Park.
