[RC] Favorite Rides - rides2far*I* can't believe nobody's listed Million Pines! :-) If I only do one ride a year on a borrowed horse this is the one. It just feels *wrong* to be at home when you know the Million Pines family reunion is going on. It's in SE Georgia and the manager Wesley Crowe parks 200 big rigs in his front yard snaked in between 10,000,000 pine trees. He has a beautiful Colonial home with a circle brick drive in front where the awards dinner is set up on his lawn. The entire police force of Soperton, GA (about 3 of them) is on duty during the ride to monitor traffic at our road crossings. The ladies of Wesley's church fix the delicious home cooked awards dinner. There's 200+ riders but he hires every ride vet in the SE and it runs smoothly. The trail is marked to perfection (as if it matters, my horse knows every turn by now) The trail is all on private land and it's nice to never have that "government land" feeling. You canter along on firm sand between rows and rows of production planted pine trees in long corridors and down packed sand dirt roads. After the ride there's a big lake behind Wesley's house and everyone wanders down and walks their horses around it in the evening. A few brave kids will jump in the water with their horses even though it's April. Wesley is a very talented shopper and always manages to come up with extremely nice prizes embroidered with his ride's logo...jackets, vests, travel bags...the best awards I know...and BC is a beautiful hand built wooden tack trunk. NOBODY does it better than the Crowes. Angie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
