[RC] Breeds competing - Michael MaulIn response to:"I wonder how many of the "grade" horses competing are unregistered purebred Arab geldings? I'd say most of the grade horses I know have been. It's a shame there's not a "breed category" for unregistered purebreds just to keep the stats in perspective."********************************************************************** Some owners already just use the AHR(Arabian) category for breed and don't give a registry number in cases like this. I don't see a problem in doing it. AERC doesn't check this or care how you enter it. I'd guess that others do think they need a registry number so enter grade or other. I did a column on how different breeds did in the placings for EN Feb 2004 http://www.aerc.org/ENFeb04VP.asp Only 4.6% were grade while about 82% were Arabs or Arab crosses. So while I agree that some owners of purebred unregistered Arabians do put grade - I think the number is small. We certainly could add a category for unregistered Arabians and we could encourage owners to use AHR w/o a registry number.
