Re: [RC] Favorite Rides in 2004 - Chris PausI did 4 AERC rides in 04 and all were good and offered something different. I'm in the CR. I have to recommend the Winding Stair ride to everyone. Beautiful scenery in the Ouichita Mountains of Okla. I had NO idea that Okla had real mountains, LOL... It's a lot like the mountainous regions of Arkansas. The camping is great.. the park is very easy to get around in with big rigs. The trail was well marked. the vets and volunteers were great, and she had good food and completion awards. Well worth the 8 hour trip from where i live. The JoTate ride in southern Missouri was fun and challenging. The camping is a lot tighter, not any amenities, so you have to get there early to get a good spot, but the trails and Ozark scenery are worth the trip and the ride! Everything was great. The vet checks well coordinated, trails well marked, etc. The Sunflower Classic at HIllsdale Lake in Kansas is always fun for me because it's my home riding territory. This year the RM had to battle awful mud. We've had so much rain. She had to reroute the trails away from some of the more scenic spots because they are so steep and the mud made them dangerous. she did a great job of marking trail, feeding us, and everything. I hope next year it's a little drier so that non Kansans can see the beauty we have here.. it's NOT ALL FLAT.... And I did the Indian Territory Ride at Oolagah Lake in OK. It's a ride that's been held for years on well established trails. The camping is great. You have lots of nice views of the lake from the trail. The trail is pretty easy going for those of us used to hills and rocks, but it's deceiving. Some riders run it too fast and end up being pulled for lameness. I think the sandy soil might be more of a challenge for horse legs than we think! I can't pick a favorite. They all were good rides and worth doing again and again! chris --- "TypeF (Jackie Floyd)" <typef@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: I thought that I would take an idea that I saw onanother newsgroup andpost my favorite rides in 2004 ...My favorite ride, hands-down for 2004 was Wild West I, II, III. Ducking under the branches and ferns on the single track trail, making turns down into what seemed like there could be no trail, only to find yourself enveloped closely in the trees. Cool ride. It was also the first time I got to share with my husband some of the trails we ride. Most definitely on my list to do in 2005. New Cuyama Oaks XP runs a close second. Beautiful territory. Grand Canyon makes it for a great view but I doubt I'll be going back for awhile, due to my terrible altitude sickness that made the ride so tough for me. But I do have to say there weren't many I didn't enjoy in 2004! After all, they were all new to me except Fireworks, East Bay and Eastern High Sierra Classic. Most definitely on my list to do in 2005 are: Cuyama, Wild West, Cold Springs, EHSC, Lake Sonoma and Desert Gold. :) Jackie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
