[RC] Directions to DVE - k s swigart

I wouldn't go this way at all.  I would tak I-40 to Barstow, continue W
on the 58 to Kramer Junction. N on US 395, take the Trona cut off (about
20 miles before Ridgecrest) to the end and turn right (I think it is
178) and go through Trona to Valley Wells.

While this may be a bit longer (I am not sure), it is FARRRRRRR better
roads, driving conditions, many fewer passes, more gas stations :),
and/but you don't have/get to go through the National Monument.

The only reason for going the other way is if you WANT to go through
Death Valley (which you may, since it you won't get to see Death Valley
during the ride).  However, you CAN go back through Death Valley (since
by the end of the ride you will have already gone over one of the passes
and will be MUCH closer to Death Valley by then).
