A hoof abcess will heal more quickly if it is allowed to drain, that would mean 
exposing the abcessed area by digging it out, this should be done by an 
experienced person such as your Vet.  Once exposed the best thing I have found 
for keeping it dry is to use a small baby diaper it it covers the hoof nicely, 
It can be secured with duck tape.  As the abcess drains the diaper does it's 
job by absorbing any of the drainage and keeping it away from the sole, it 
should be changed regularly.

Pat Thomas and her wonderful crew of volenteers put on an amazing ride that ran 
so smoothly it was a joy to participate in. Thank you all for all the hard work
