Subject: [RC] kids/stick a fork in it

OK guys, when there's a subject on here it tends to go through several
stages:

First, the idea is new. Some people post their ideas. Others post the
other side of the argument which has some valid points the first person
hadn't considered.

The two sides are debated in a healthy debate.

This is the stage where the cake is just right...it's "done". This is a
discussion forum, not a solution forum. There is no way to make it happen
on RC, we just put out ideas and may attempt to sway the opinions of
others so that in the places where it does count (elections, etc) they
may vote in a way which will promote our version of the "right way".

Unfortunately the discussion usually continues. This is when we have a
tendency to turn up the heat and it starts to smell. People start to
inject emotion and lots of "What ifs" into the discussion. The goal at
this point is to make the other side admit they're right. If they don't
admit it, they bring out more examples and "What ifs?" This is when it
gets a bit redundent. Now we're into quantity of postings rather than
novelty of ideas. Most people have begun to hit the delete key by now.
Those who have put the most into the argument seem to get to mentality
that the last one to post on the subject wins.

Maybe we should go with the old Ben Franklin rule...company and
fish...and subject lines, stink after three days.

Angie
