[RC] Runaways at the back (was: Kids....etc.) - k s swigart

While the "runaway" from the back of the pack doesn't happen
at all rides it happens enough to be a serious threat...

This must be another one of those regional things. Out here in the west
this hardly happens at all. Generally speaking, people who have no
control of their horses have a tendency to start at the FRONT....and
stay there. Mostly because they know if they start at the back, then
their horses will spend the whole damn day trying to catch up with the
horse ahead of them, and then the next one, and the next one....etc.
Far safer (and far more likely to have control) if you just start out
front rather than having your horse feel the need to run down every
horse on the course one at a time.

Or they start at the front, and let their out of control horses run with
the front runners, until their horses get tired. Rarely ever are such
horses/riders anywhere near the back. Those that start at the back are
those who want to ride with Trilby :).
