One of the most important things in cold weather is a reliable water source, preferably well above freezing. Horses drink a lot less when the water is full of ice, and are more prone to impactions. We have most of our herd on Brower automatic waterers that keep the water temp at about 50 degrees, regardless of the ambient temperature. They are worth their weight in gold, as far as I'm concerned--and I can't wait until we are in a position to get waterers for our stallion paddocks as well! Also, a horse's normal body temp can range anywhere from about 98 up to 101.5 or so.
