[RC] Farriers vs vet cost. - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: kate kate.kearby@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== We've got a great farrier was trained by his grand dad and he's kind of on the short side so he can keep the old horses feet close to the ground easier. Charges $50 and $20 for trims and does a great job even if it's special work, like a horse that forges or an under slung heel. One of the other things you can do for a great farrier is have your horses tame as kittens for them, he says he'll do ours even if he has to retire from others. and we feed him cookies and give him a nice Christmas bonus too. (this is in oklahoma near OKC) I have a girl friend that insists on hauling her horses to the worst 'horseshoeing school' in the country so she can get shoes for $20, she's had horses laid up at the vet at that school for weeks due to hot nails and worse and is constantly loading them up and hauling them down for getting thrown shoes put back on. I'll call her to go ride and sometimes out of 4 horses she hasn't got one without a hoof problem... I've tried and tried to show her the costs that she's incurring for that cheap trashy shoeing job. and the other thing was i knew one of her horses since he was born had the most beautiful toughest feet i'd ever seen a half arab with a nice size 1 hoof that probably could go barefoot anywhere, the state of his feet is so sad. and this woman works in finance. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
