Re: [RC] LDs as Endurance - Joe LongOn Mon, 6 Dec 2004 08:21:35 EST, RDCARRIE@xxxxxxx wrote: ... I don't think that wanting to keep the extra effort (on the part of the rider and equine) of 50+ mile rides separate from LDs is LD bashing...it's simply making the distinction that they ARE different, in many ways. If we redefine the sport to call LDs "endurance," what's next? Many rides are now starting to offer shorter (12-15 mile) introductory rides. In 10 or 15 years, are *those* riders going to demand that their rides be called endurance?? You can count on it. Just like when weight divisions were introduced, we had two weight divisions (Lightweight and Heavyweight). Then we went to three, adding Middleweight. Then we went to four, adding Featherweight. And today we have people asking for an expansion to five (Superheavyweight)! I'd like to see the AERC return to three weight divisions, I believe that worked better than the four we have now ... but what do you think are the chances of that happening? If we ever make the mistake of redefining Endurance Rides as rides of 25 miles, it will be very hard to go back. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
