My old 1983 Ford F350 6.9 diesel averaged about 15 or 16.  12 or 14 pulling the trailer.  The best mileage I got was on the freeway from San Jose to Santa Ynez, empty with no tailgate.  I averaged 19.6 on that trip....mb
