People really need to check both state laws and local ordinances before 
strapping on a hand gun and going out in public There are many places 
with laws against carrying an hand gun on your person in the open - even 
with a concealed weapon permit. The concealed weapon permit makes it 
legal to carry a fire arm concealed - in a pouch, under you coat, in 
your purse, etc., but it does not necessarly make it legal to strap the 
sucker on you hip and go out in public.

words carefully, I said "weapon" not "gun."  For someone who is
properly trained in its use, and who has properly trained their horse,
a gun worn openly (where legal) is IMO the best choice.  It lets the
folks know you have it without you making any agressive moves, and
it's there if you need it to defend yourself if you are attacked.
(BTW, Kahlil was trained to the sound of firearms being fired from the
saddle.)
