[RC] re: riding alone safely - Cindy CollinsMost of my training miles have been ridden alone. I do have friends who go along at various times, but it isn't anything that can be counted on. Of course when I started this sport, there weren't cell phone and GPS, but now that there are I, too, carry a cell phone, water, food of some sort, a GPS (you can tell someone your coordinates as you wait with your broken leg), whiskey for medicinal purposes, and often, a handgun, if I'm going a long distance or in the mountains. I also always leave a note on the kitchen table saying when I left and approx. where I'm heading and how long I plan to be gone. Hope this all helps.
