Re: [RC] safety and riding alone. - RDCARRIEI ride with hubby and friends on the weekends, but when I take off work and ride during the week, I'm alone. I took a cell phone at first, but it was too much trouble to remember, and besides, a lot of the Nat. Forest I ride in has poor or no reception. Now I just tell my husband approx. where I'm going and about when I'll be home. He knows that my estimate of getting home is approximate, and that I'm usually late. <G> But if I'm *really* late, he'd come looking. I do carry my cell phone in the truck and call him as I'm heading home. My horse is 18 yrs old and should know better, but he still has one heck of a spook 'n spin and the possibility of me hitting the dirt is pretty real (LOL) but that's a risk I accept (and that gives hubby gray hairs). If I get hurt too badly to get back on (hasn't happened yet), I'll just have to wait till he finds me. I do admit that I'm bad about making snap decisions to explore new trails that I haven't told hubby about, and sometimes get caught in the dark, but I've been lucky so far. I guess I just don't worry too much about riding alone...I like being in the woods alone, with just my horse, so I actually enjoy riding alone.
