[RC] safety and riding alone - Jonni JewellI ride alone 99% of the time. Actually pretty rare for me to ride with someone. I call my hubby when I mount up, and I call him when I am done. I got an "Ankle safe" from Sportack to put my cell phone in, instead of the old hip pack. When I got the current cell service provider, I found the one that gave me the best coverage for the area where I ride...not the best coverage otherwise. Many people plan a route for the day, and tell someone where they are going, or what trail. Many it is as simple as writing it on a chalk board as they leave home on their ride. Besides having the cell phone on ME, I also have a leatherman tool, and whistle in my ankle safe. I carry ID on me, and usually have an ID tag on the horse. I am sure there are many like me, who if we waited for company to ride with, we often would not be able to ride. I have to match schedules with the one friend I ride with once and awhile, and often it just does not work out. With 3 horses to work, I just have to ride..........and that ends up alone.
