Re: [RC] Dogs in RC - Jeannie GillenGreat Compromise......my dog goes with me everywhere....and does well with rules..It is hard for me to believe everyone does not enjoy his company, no matter how good he is.......Thanks for the idea of separate camping with dogs.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara McCrary" <bigcreekranch@xxxxxxxxxx> To: "Ridecamp Guest" <guest-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, January 26, 2004 8:44 AM Subject: Re: [RC] Dogs in RC As ride managers of nearly 30 years, we have had all sorts of dog problems over the years. I would ask politely, then I would set rules, then I started becoming angry at people and realized that the only person that was being hurt was myself. Now we have a special area to camp for people who brought dogs, and they are not allowed to bring the dogs into the main camp area, dining area, vetting area, or start-finish line. So far, most people have been very considerate and have thanked us for providing the special camping area. I approach anyone who fails to notice the rules and quietly remind them that the dogs must be removed from the main camp and confined to their special camping area. On Sunday morning after the event is over and most people have left, some dog owners do bring their pets into the main camp, but by that time it's safe to do so. Am I the only one who thinks loose dogs and excited Arabins is not a smart mix? The ride managers clearly state that dogs have to be on lead but this seems to just be ignored by almost all with nothing said to them. I know that the parties that bring dogs figure that their dogs is used to horses, and their horses are used to dogs, but not every horse that comes is used to dogs and all it takes is just one spook to dump a rider, get them hurt and have a spooked horse running loose tearing out all the electric tape corrals. This isn't a real big deal I guess but just an increasing annoyance to me and was wondering if anyone else has noticed the trend. Ok - back to lurking. No flames please, I really am a dog lover.Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
