Did this with a 4H group last year.
If the kids can do it so can you!
Simple Rump
Rug
Needle: size 14 for sewing
webbing
size 12 for fabric
For most average size
horses
one yard of 60" wide polar fleece.
one yard nylon for the
upper
This step is for looks only and can
be skipped if you want
Using a dinner plate round 2 of the
corners at the bottom (make sure don't do the wrong corners , you want the end
that will be at the back of the horse)
Place right sides together and sew
around leaving a spot at the top you can turn right side out.
*** Use lots of pins. Polar
fleece and nylon do not like each other much and unless you have a good walking
foot machine will shift and not in the same place when you are
done.
You might have to finger ease
your polar fleece as you go
Turn right side out and pin all the
way around closing the opening. Again pin lots so it does not
shift.
(like sewing a porcupine so be
careful)
Next take 1" Webbing and sew across
the top making sure to burn and turn under your edges.
Fold in half and mark the center
back. For a western saddle measure 7 1/2 inches each side. Take 1" web and
attach Dee rings or snaps for attaching to your saddle.
*** Note nylon thread will outlast
the regular sewing thread. Most home machines will not take it though so double
seam all sewing for strength
