Re: [RC] Hope Ryden BS - heidiBefore you folks start bashing Hope Ryden based on that letter, you might do a search on google for a biography of her. She has studied mustangs since before 1969 and for several decades her book on Americas Wild Horses was the accepted standard. Karen No, I don't believe her book was ever an "accepted standard" among those who actually have to work with natural resources or deal with the issues of overpopulation of the horses, or death by starvation, etc. Ms. Ryden went so far as to try to sue other authors whose careful research shot holes in her pet theories, in an attempt to suppress their work--but her scare tactics did not work, and if anything, backfired. If you want a good factual reference on the subject, get hold of a copy of THE WILD HORSE CONTROVERSY--it is well-written, well-researched, gives copious bibliographical information where one can follow up on the facts it presents--and it exposes Ms. Ryden's work for what it is--pretty much the title of this thread...
