Our old farmer neighbor, who'd probably never even heard the term PC, always called them "Chiney roosters" and loved them so much he tried over and over to plant them on his land. They never made it for very long, but they sure were a pretty sight.

In addition, the pheasant is not native to North America. It was introduced from its home country (which one escapes me right now, it's in Asia). The pheasant was first introduced in Oregon, I believe in the late 1800s or early 1900s. It's now present throughout quite a bit of the country - the west and also the northern/central Plains.
