Check your local requirements.  In many areas of the west " fence out" or
"open range"  may be in one place and just across the road, county line,
city limits, or some other  boundary,   may be "herd law" (fence in)
district.

As everyone has said, the laws vary. I don't know where you are from?  In
most Western states, like here in Wyoming, the law says you must "fence
out" other livestock.  Most "good neighbors" will want to help you out and
at least share in the cost of repairs, but they have no legal obligation
to do so.  Sorry!  Cindy
