RE: [RC] Cold Backed Horse - Karen SnodgrassI also have a "cold-backed" horse. During the ride season, at wet, cold rides, I leave the saddle on during vet checks unless we are required to remove them. In that case I have a fleece blanket ready to cover her back with. In the winter, I switch to a double thick, wool back saddle pad (instead of the usual combination of Dixie midnight and thinner wool pad). I also switch from the neoprene girth to a wool fleece girth. When I brush her, I try to just use a stiff brush on her back and if she is really dirty I use a rubber curry instead of the hard plastic ones. She seems much less grouchy with these changes. Good luck. -Karen (NE Ohio) -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Val Nicoson Sent: Monday, November 29, 2004 9:16 PM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] Cold Backed Horse During Late Fall/Early Winter when the temp drops into the 40s or below my horse gets sensitive on her back. She has an "attitude" regarding any kind of grooming, cinching, etc. Have noticed that this is a normal thing for her every fall/winter as she doesn't act like this during the warmer months. Yes, she has a nice winter coat. So what do the rest of you do who have horses that have this same tendency? Do you not groom or ride as often? Ignore the attitude or what? Just curious, Val __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
