As someone who did a little barrel racing before endurance, you just need to 
find the ones who don't ever win! <BG> Let them know there's a sport where 
they can let their horse go, (within reason), their "mistakes" are in the 
woods and seen by few people, etc. They can even start in their current tack 
(try to get them in tights, though!) There might be more potential converts 
there than you think.
As for the bridle part, any of us who custom make biothane tack can use your 
little bridle measurements for a new bridle.

Oh, believe me Maryanne, *I* am so glad there is no money in it....but boy did it bum me out to have this girl's first question be if there is money to win! Where do you do the rides, what are the people like, etc. Maybe I just bask in my personal mediocrity, but I can't say that I've ever chosen to get involved in any sport where the factor of prize money was even a slight part of whether or not I participated.

 

Makes me think about the 100 mile discussion we often have (concering increasing participation). Well, I guess if we wee willing to offer prize money we'd have more riders....but I'd sure as h*ll would hate to *ever* see that....your stories and my own experience with human nature have helped me form that opinion.
