Re: [RC] heart rates for standardbreds - heidiPlease Reply to: diane e.d@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Hi list Can anyone who seriously campaigns a Standardbred please let me know whattheir heart rates are like. Any other information re this breed in serious endurance would be much appreciated. Please CC to e.d@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx as I'm not subscribed to this list. Thanks Dianne Well, I haven' personally campaigned one (although I did do a 75 in Europe on a Russian Orlov--very similar sort of critter), but I've sure vetted a slug of them over the years at rides. I've seen some who were bulky enough to have some difficulty with heat, but by and large, most of them have had very good recovery rates. If I were to pick a breed second to the Arab most likely to have good recovery rates, it would be the Standardbred. They are bred to be able to not just trot their mile, but to do several heats the same day, and as such, they can't be blown out of the water by the first round. So the good ones tend to be metabolically fairly sound, and do tend to have good HR recoveries.
