[RC] CTR as prep for Endurance - Judy HouleCTR is thr best training ground for a career in endurance. One thing you learn is pacing, and where to make time or give them a break. (Some people never learn it.) You learn all the ins and outs of taking care of your horse over mileage, like how to cool them out, drinking, peeing, and all the signs that they're in trouble. You get your equitation critiqued, as well as your mount, work the bugs out of your saddle and tack fit, how to make a safe area for your horse to spend the night, etc. Lots of top endurance riders were CTR champions first, like the Waltenspiels, Tony Benedetti, Peter Rich the trainer of top Tevis horses, Jan Jeffers. I think there is a need for more education in endurance. More clinics and seminars in more parts of the country, not just the convention. I went to one at U.C.Davis and one where you brought your horse and applied what you'd learned the next day on a 25 miler with an experienced rider back in the '70's. You just don't see that anymore. At least in the West region. Judy __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
