Re: [RC] CTR vs. endurance - heidiI have to totally agree with Heidi in that one of the biggest advantages to starting out in CTR is learning how to pace your horse and know how fast you are going. Am finishing my 2nd season of CTR and am now ready and excited to tackle endurance with my mare. I guess whether it is better to start them in CTR or endurance is a personal choice, but for me I decided to start Amira in CTR because I wanted her to have a good understanding of the fact that I set the pace...not her! Talking about two different things here--first, the rider starting in CTR, and then the horse starting in CTR. I feel that CTR teaches the beginning rider a lot--but it is the rider that teaches the horse. So--an experienced rider should be able to start a green horse in either sport with equal ease. I teach all of my horses that I set the pace when I start them in endurance as well, but I couldn't do that if I didn't know how to pace a horse to begin with. And I feel that CTR helped me to learn how to do that. Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
