Re: [RC] Sciatica - Pam DeMerchantMy experience with chiropractors, sciatica and exercises: When I got sciatica from a bad spill a year and a half ago, I went to the chiro and got an x-ray. After the swelling went down, I got an adjustment (I may have gotten a second one later too). Exercises do help tighten up the area, but the bones have to be in place first, so therefore the need for adjustment first. Chiropractors tend to create a dependency. The more you use them, the more you need them. Find a chiro you trust (and don't feel taken advantage of), just get as many (minimum) treatments as YOU think you need and ask them to show you which exercises will help you. Go by how your back feels and monitor if the improvement is worth the $. They always try to reschedule you after an adjustment. I just say "I'll call when I need you." The exercises I use are lying on your back and pulling your knee up and holding for 10-counts...then pulling your knee over to the opposite side, holding. Also, sit-ups.
