The result is enough improvement in traction that he was secure on the stretches of paved roads I traversed going to the dirt roads.Mostly I was able to ride on the narrow strip of gravel between the pavement and the ditch to get some extra traction. Because of the slipping possibility it was not ideal, but the only option I had for 30 years winter and summer. I never did have a horse fall on the pavement, but a couple of spooks over the years were extra exciting.
