[RC] Feeding a "pastured" weanling for the winter - rosalie

I have a 8 month old weanling. He has been doing great on pasture, my
vet had me wean him when she saw him starting to develop "joint
flares". So I hadn't been feeding any grain supplement until about a
month ago, when I feed him about 1.5 pounds of omolene 300 daily. He
is with the other horses on the pasture, and it is about to go
dormant, so I've been feeding them all appropriate grain and have just
started putting out grass hay. (I separate everyone for their evening
grain, it keeps everyone handled and lets me take a quick look at each
one.)

I was going to switch to Purina's Equine Junior:
http://horse.purinamills.com/products/prd_EquineJunior.html
but it looks like it's for halter-babies? They say "hay is optional".
I want this guy outside being a horse, but I want to make sure his
nutrition is being met without over-doing it. Can I still feed this
stuff at about 1.5 to 2 pounds a day? Or if there are other
suggestions, I'm open to those as well. As the temps plummet and the
pasture becomes fully dormant, I will be adding a little alfalfa hay
to the grass hay.

Thanks
Rosalie
