Re: [RC] training regression stories - heidiAnybody want to share their experiences with what I call "training regression"? Or solutions? I've gotta agree with Marv when he said, "You call him "spooker" I call him good student." Sounds to me that you've taught him that spooking is the right response, and that you need to realign your own body language to send him a different message. With regard to the trailer loading--my goodness, 100 times?? I'd venture that he is bored silly with it and sees no purpose in it. Marv is also right about simply teaching him the proper responses on the ground, and then just loading him in the trailer without any fanfare. We don't have a single difficult loader on the place, and we virtually never "trailer-train"--instead, we teach them to respond appropriately to our own body language, and when it comes to time to trailer, they just walk right in. Even with green horses that haven't been handled much, trailer loading takes at most about 10 minutes, if you understand when to ask, when to praise, and when to wait. In general, most of our Arabs have something more or less "down pat" after only a few repetitions, and begin to question your sanity if you drill and drill and drill on something.
