All I was trying to say was that the person wanting to pass shouldn't assume that it's their 'right' to get to pass; if there was a reply they considered rude, maybe there was a reason (in the mind of the people being passed) for it. In your case, everyone was mutually acceptable to passing/being passed. It is too bad it isn't always that way....
