Re: [RC] How much land per horse in Michigan? - heidiWhen I was in school for Horse Science. We were taught that for pasture you need 2.5 acres per horse. If you plan on having a barn, keeping them up part time and feeding hay, you can get by with much less land per horse. If you feed hay, you can "get by" with much less (and in Michigan, you will have winter, so you WILL have to feed hay for at least a few months of the year)--but keep in mind that horses also need room to move around in order to stay healthy and sound. Even on dryland, one need not have a barn and keep them "up"--one can feed hay in a large space just as easily as in a small space. :-) Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
