RE: [RC] does weight really matter? - Kelly

Thank you. That makes much sense and my common sense
kicks in with that. It is easier to pull something
than carry if designed correctly to pull. (of course
to me and my human sense, pushing is the easiest, lol)
Thank you for clearing that up. And I say a big "duh"
to myself on that.

Thanks Kelly

you can't compare these two because you have two
different body types of
horses doing two different things.

btw, if we take the average "light" horse and put
him in harness to pull a
vehicle (not talking plowing here which is more
strenuous than pulling a
vehicle down a road) he should hold up longer than a
horse that is ridden
because pulling is easier on them than carrying
weight. that's why many
people start driving young horses before they go
under saddle, they can
begin to learn w/o the stress of carrying weight.

you have to keep in mind the horse is not
constructed to carry weight on
his back, it is something we ask him to do for us.

marlene,

the one think i believe that might be overlooked
here
is that 2 horses
of
equal size and equal conformation may down the road
show the effects of
one
carrying more weight and by that i a mean how that
horse carrying the
more
weight holds up physically in the long run.

think about it, if you have 2 humans of equal
size/body type carrying
back
packs (one lighter one heavier) for years who do
you
think is going to
have
arthritis etc first?

for the moment, or a few years, you may be correct
that "weight doesn't
matter" but i think for the horse in the long run
it
will.
