What they found was that when horses became accustomed to carrying a heavier weight the pulses eventually evened out and the horses carrying more weight had around the same pulses as the ones carrying lighter riders. The only advantage they found was when the horse trained with a HW and then switched to a LW for competition. Then the pulse ran lower.
