Re: [RC] beet pulp and molassas - Lif StrandQuoted from Jim Ingersoll's message at 03:58 PM 10/29/2004:One tablespoon of molassas has 45 calories, figure 20tbs in a cup of molassas or 900 calories of pure sugar. Why figure 20 tbs in a cup of molasses when a cup only holds 16 tbs and some of that has to be other than pure sugar? I went online and found that a cup of molasses has 872 calories, whereas pure cane sugar actually has 774 calories. Of course, the site I used could be wrong. Meanwhile, one needs to figure what percentage molasses is of beet pulp, which would give you the ability to calculate the actual number of calories derived from the molasses component, and that would depend on the manufacturer. If there was even a tbs of molasses being used as a binder in a cup of beet pulp I'd be surprised, but I could be wrong, not having a label to look at since I'm using beet pulp pellets with no molasses listed as an ingredient. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
