RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] [RC] My horse choked on beet pulp - terry banisterYes, I think the mollassas is the reason why our beet pulp is not dusty. The beet pulp from one of our suppliers is lighter and dryer (less mollassas) than the other's. But they all list mollassas on the tag. I don't worry about it though, because I don't think one serving of beet pulp has enough mollassas to bother a normal horse. Also, I don't worry about the shredded beet pulp being "totally softened" because it's not pellets that can enlarge or lodge in the horse's throat, and the moisture they are taking in with the shredded pulp assists in swallowing. I live in a very dry climate - that might account for why the pulp sheds did take 10-15 minutes to totally soften. Again, that could be why mine were so very dusty. I used them for about a year before getting fed up with the dust and the fact that shreds are not as easy to scoop as pellets are. I've tried to get my feed store to order pellets without molasses, but price and all the customers combined wishes dictate what they will buy, not the request of one customer. I am not, however, concerned about the relatively small amount of molasses that my horses ingest with the pellets. _________________ Lif Strand * Quemado NM USA www.fasterhorses.com/highcountryrider/ --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
