Re: [RC] Endurance riding shoes - Barbara McCraryI still like my Ariat Performers the best. The soles do not hang up in the stirrups, and although they are not the world's more comfy hiking boots, I have still managed to hike quite a distance in them while leading my horse down a steep hill or whatever. Another reason I like them is the firm sole, which saves my feet from becoming numb. I've come off twice in about a year and each time my memory is of having to kick my boot out of the stirrup when I realized that gravity (and a huge spook) had got the better of me. I'm not going to ride in them again. Available at most tack stores and thru catalogs. I also wear New Balance walking shoes. I have to be careful wearing them with one of my saddles because they get caught in the stirrup. Higher boots such as the Terrains are safer. Some people believe in wearing shoes/boots that will come off if they do get caught while you're disconnecting from your horse unintentionally. An upper end outfitter type store has them. I just as often wear New Balance running shoes because they're nice & wide.
