Haven't I seen an attachment that sort of made a V at the saddle and
attached to both the rings on the cantle?>

Exactly what I use on my saddle. I bought one at a pet supply. Two snaps linked with a leatherpiece about 8"' with a ring in the center (for leasing two dogs on one lease)a tandem lease it's called, I think.
