I would have never attempted to do a 100 until I wanted to go to ROC and I believe that is the reason the majority of folks tried their first 100. ... to go to a major event...ROC, Tevis OD etc. even tho the others did not have qualifications, most people wished to try an "easier" one first...IMO It would be interesting to look through some of the old records, but I suspect you are one of the few who didn't do 100s to place in the standings. The year I placed about the same (I was 21st and 22nd in mileage and points, and I'd have to go back and look to see which placing was which) I did four 100s and a 90. And no one thought that was a high number of 100s at the time. Many of the rank and file riders did 100s from time to time, with no aspiration whatsoever of going to ROC or any such, although ROC did get a few more to do 100s, admittedly.
