Re: [RC] leg wraps - Ed & Wendy Hauser"...heat in one leg on Sat. and then sore suspensory in the other leg the next day..." The next chance you get, have a friendly vet (ride or personal) show you how to check the suspensory. It is easy to feel, and the reaction is easy to notice. Suspensory injuries are the pits, you want to have advance warning before lots of damage is done. I have an ex-endurance horse happily living as a mountain horse in WY because of a suspensory injury. Checking for heat is easy. You just run your hand down the leg and feel the temperature. If on leg is hotter than the other, or hotter than it should be, given the circumstances, you have heat. Heat should be investigated. If you can train your horse to stand in a bucket of ice water, this will cool etc. better than any wrap or ice boot. Water has high heat capacity, great heat conduction and there is a lot of it. Don't you just love the detailed NARK rules?
