Re: [RC] Cold Weather Riding - Chris PausHere in eastern Kansas, we've had 50 to 60 degree weather and drizzle since Sunday. Really gray and gloomy, but it's still pretty with all the fall colors. The woods are a painter's pallette with reds and golds and browns. and now it's getting to be my favotire time of fall, when leaves are carpeting the trail. But alas, my work has kept me too busy this week to ride. I haven't ridden since Sunday.. and I'm getting grumpy! Today, it has warmed up but still is drizzly and the wind has picked up considerably. We have a strong south breeze, about 15 to 20 mph. We are expecting strong storms this afternoon, then clearing and nice over the weekend. Strong storms in Kansas can be pretty exciting! There's an interesting book out there called The Class of '65. It follows the lives of a few 1965 graduates of a Los Angeles high school. One of them ended up in Tonganoxie KS, where my parents live. He said he was attracted to Kansas by the intensity of the storms and the way the sky lit up! But after the storms, it usually is gorgeous, like the storm blows away all that was wrong. I'm passionate about where I live, kind of like Dorothy, I guess. I've traveled and lived lots of places, from Seattle to Pawtucket, RI, to the north woods of Wisconsin, and I always come back home to Kansas. I guess I am used to the steady wind in my face, the open feeling, the variety of terrain, and the people who are rock steady and very friendly. chris --- Barbara McCrary <bigcreekranch@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From a ridecamp reader and contributor who isfascinated with weather in other parts of the country (and world), would folks who send in descriptions like that below please identify their state and general location within that state? I enjoy sitting here when it's pouring rain and reading about someone in the SW who is enjoying the sun. Conversely, I enjoy a warm, sunny day and reading about a blizzard in the Midwest. I just love weather!
