Re: [RC] CA rides and rain - Lynne GlazerChino Hills State Park closes to bicyclists and equestrians alike after a storm. The nature of our soil (primarily decomposed granite) results in a moonscape appearance if trail use by horses is allowed, most unpleasant--and of course nothin' but ruts if the bikers get in there.Anybody remember the first Caspers Park ride, in the rain? And how ticked park mgmt was afterwards? As little rain as we get it's no big deal to switch to another place when it's rainy. Of course in an El Nino year like this one, it's more challenging--in SoCal where I live, at 2000 ft, we've gotten around 6" of rain in 3 days, most of it last night. But the ground drains so quickly we won't have a standing water problem if there is 24 hrs without more rain. In Norco's sandy riverbed, the parkland is usuable immediately after or during a rainstorm--just DON'T cross the river unless you like quicksand, after the first good rains of the year!
