Nationally there is no miniumum age. In the Southeast the minimum age is 8. My 
daughter did her first 50 at 10. She might have done it earlier if we'd had a 
horse we trusted. The start of an endurance ride can be a dangerous place, 
nevermind the ride. You need a horse you really trust and you owe it to ride 
management, the other riders, and the kids to make sure they're ready before 
you bring them to a ride. You're the best judge of when that is.  Remember, you 
not only have to look out for your child but you also have to look out for 
other people who may not be able to control their horses. In my case I was 
having a hard time controlling my own horse...not the best candidate for 
sponsoring back then.
